Coronavirus Update 9-03-2020

Covid-19 FAQs

COVID-19 (novel coronavirus)

With the worldwide scare of coronavirus, we urge all our patients to take precautions around their health and the spread of illness. It is important that we all educate ourselves on the risks of coronavirus and how to prevent the spread of this disease.

Coronavirus has symptoms like those of the common cold or flu. These include:

  • Fever
  • Coughing
  • Difficulty breathing

How it spreads

Coronavirus spreads through droplets, meaning that the disease can be spread by:

  • Coughing/sneezing
  • Close personal contact
  • Contact with an object or surface with viral particles on it then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes.

What to do if I’m sick?

DO NOT WALK INTO A MEDICAL PRACTICE IF YOU ARE UNWELL. Please call first so that we can assess you over the phone and determine the best option for you. If you are asked to attend the practice, please put on a mask immediately upon entering.

If you have these symptoms and have recently been to a country or area of concern or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19, please telephone Healthline (for free) on 0800 358 5453 or Helios Health

If you’re experiencing cold-like symptoms, we urge you to self-isolate for 14 days. Information on how to do this best can be found here.

If you have a high fever or are having trouble breathing, immediately attend the ED or Pegasus 24-Hour Surgery or dial 1-1-1.

Why the concern?

Coronavirus is proving to be deadly for vulnerable populations and we must do our best to protect our patients. If our staff contract coronavirus, we risk the spread of infection to patients and potentially having to close the practice for two weeks.

When you call our practice to schedule an appointment, you will be asked the reason. Please don’t be offended by this; we believe this the best way to properly triage our patients and prevent the spread of disease.
